Shata (Sudanese Chilli Sauce)


To really get your metabolism going and your tastebuds on fire, here is a fantastic chilli sauce which comes from Sudan. It's simple - but it packs a big punch of flavour and will turn any bland meal into something spectacular :) It keeps well in the fridge in a sealed container for up to two weeks and it an accompaniment to anything you can think of!

Shata (Sudanese Chilli Sauce)

Ingredients
1 cup fresh lemon juice
3 cloves garlic, crushed
2 tbsp dried chilli flakes
1/2 tsp cracked black pepper
1/2 tsp salt

To Make
1. Mix all ingredients together well.
2. Let stand for at least 10 minutes and the serve with anything.

  2. I'm Sudanese, a traveler and a foodie. I've tried the different types of shatta, especially in Thailand and Malaysia. This is a great recipe for sure, I love shatta and make enough of it to freeze and use whenever I felt like it. Not all Sudanese can handle very hot shatta but it's a stable on every menu!
